Another Trip Story....

While in Ontario last fall (2005), I was able to visit the house where my Grandmother was born in 1907.

There is a story that goes here: In September, I went to vist my Grandma in Saskatchewan who at that time was 98. A friend of my mine was able to go out to Donegal Ontario and visit the cemetery for me to take pictures. Well, I took those pictures with me to share with Grandma and the rest of the family. Grandma commented that she was born in the house beside the cemetery. Well, if I wasnt surprise because I really didnt have a location of where she was born other than in Elma Twp, Perth County, Ontario. But we all assumed that she was born in or near Donegal.

Well, when I went on my vacation to Ontario, one of the places I want to go to was to Donegal and to the cemetery. And to see if there was still a house beside the cemetery. There was one and the people that live there invited me in and showed me around. It was such an awesome experience, to go through a place where almost a 100 years ago my grandmother was brought into the world. And imagine how different the place must have been way back when. My great great grandparents buried in the cemetery beside this house and many miles ago their son, my great grandfather and mother are buried at Salvador Saskatchewan.

How funny it is at how far away we can get from our roots and lose contact with family that at one time was so close. And now almost a hundred years later, I went back to walk those same halls and climb those same stairs that my great great grandparets once did.

THE BUCHANAN'S

This layout is of my great great grandparents and their children. I have been learning bits and pieces about this family. William Samuel Buchanan was the son of William Buchanan and Ann Thompson and was born in Elma Township in 1860. He married Margaret Burke in 1881 and they had three children, Andrew, Mary and Effie. Andrew Richard Buchanan is my great grandfather. They all, at some point in time, moved out to Saskatchewan.

Andrew Buchanan was born in 1882 in Elma Township. He married my great grandmother Annie Maude Danbrook in 1904 and their first two children where born in Ontario before moving out to Saskatchewan in 1907.

Mary Buchanan is a little bit of a mystery for me. She was born in 1887 in Elma Township. She married Tom Jordon in Saskatchewan.

Effie Buchanan is another little bit of a mystery for me as well. She was born in 1884 in Elma Township. She married Edward Slaughter in 1907. She and Edward did come out west for some time and I think their first child was born in Saskatchewan. And then they all moved back to Toronto where Effie died of the Spanish Flu Epidemic of 1918. Effie and Edward are buried in Prospect Cemetery in Toronto.

Margaret (Burke) Buchanan, the wife of William, travelled back to Ontario to visit family in 1911. While home, Margaret became illness and went in for an operation at Quelph and passed away due to the operation. She was buried at Donegal Cemetery.

William Buchanan homesteaded near Asor, Saskatchewan for a while but by the early 1920's he had moved back to Ontario and remarried. He passed away in 1944 and was buried at Donegal Cemetery.

Well, that is a brief outline of my Buchanan's. The picture of them was only found a little while ago. My great aunt passed away in October and while at the luncheon after the funeral there was a little display set up with some pictures and the one in the layout above was there. I was able to take a pretty good picture of this old photo.

Photoshop Course

I decided today to go and get my Photoshop cs2 book for the course I will be taking at the end of November, partly because I wanted to get the book and partly to find the classroom I would be in.

Well, I had done a little pricing on the book because I knew I could get it at Chapters if I had to. Well, the idea is that it is suppose to be cheaper at the campus book store because you dont have to pay something extra ... whatever that is suppose to be. Needless, to say ... no it wasnt!!! It would have been $5 cheaper if i would have went to Chapters...I just didnt know when I was going to have time to go to Chapters and that is a scary store to be in. You go in for one book and you could come out with 5. Ohh well, either way, its not like I have wasted my money, I need the book for the class and I am sure there are things in the book that I can learn from.

I did however pick up another book while at the mall regarding the parks walking trails here in Calgary. I am hoping that i will be able to find some new places to take photos. I was quite successful a couple of weeks ago, and followed a deer on one of the trails. Didnt get as many photos from her as I would have like but start small and work your way up right :) haha

This is a Mama deer, the baby deer was hiding in the trees somewhere. Could him but couldnt find him.

Not much happening around here.

Mondays!!

Well, nothing to great is planned for today. I have decided to make a fancy dinner, well sort of fancy anyway. We all are going to try something new, which is salsa chicken, basically because I thought it sounded good. I have the whole week fun and yes, I know it will be by so far I wont know what to do with myself.

I have decided that one of the days, I am going to sent up my photography studio in the basement. I have the backdrop already, sitting here collecting dust so I think it would be a good time to do a little work on things. I have a flash unit that I really dont know how to use very well, so maybe if I set things up and will have a place to practise. I have been thinking about getting some lighting as well but will have to wait and seeing if the money fairy will be kind or not, haha :)

I took this photo over the weekend and I have had some great responses to it, so thought I would share it with all of you.

Hello Blogger World

Hi All;

I have been blogging for a while on Yahoo 360, however I think time is getting short for Yahoo 360, so I have decided to move my Blog to here. Hopefully, some of the Guys and Girls from there will move over here so I dont close all of the friends I have made.

My first true passion is Genealogy. I have been researching for sometime now and really enjoy the thrill of the search. Also love to meet new people I have found and the exchange of family and history.

My second true passion is somewhat new. I have really started to enjoy photography, not only the photos I have taken but also the learning process of photography. I was never much for school but learning something that you really like makes a world of difference.

Alot of my blogs are of photos I have taken. I like to share my artwork and like to hear what people have to say.

If any of my Yahoo 360 friends are out there please drop me a line so I know you are still alive and kicking. I wont close my yahoo blog anytime soon ... will wait and see what happens.
